While my primary purpose in Thailand is to teach my students about Jesus so they draw pictures like the ones below on their papers. And my secondary purpose is to give them an education which provides them with opportunity and hope for the future. My third purpose is to prevent the creation of more signs like these . OK maybe it has become more of a hobby to collect the signs that make me laugh. I hope you enjoy too. I have included captions in case you can't read the signs and for further explanation.
"I love God" by: My Buddhist Student - I hope there will be many more signs like this throughout this country.
"Please except our apologize for any inconveniences which might caused". - Management team
"Not Allow to use The marking tape"
"for a cup not too much 'sweet'" (This was found on the packaging of some coasters. I think it means it is for cups that don't sweat too much...which still doesn't explain everything...like um...why have a coaster if it can't handle the sweat?
I feel confused. Where am I Brazil or Chiang Mai?
"The Fast and the Furious" was painted in mirror image on this truck.
This sign says "Please change your shoes first, thanks" is posted outside the bathroom. While there is nothing wrong with the sign, it is a little disturbing to take off your own shoes and put on public bathroom sandals to use a squatty potty.
"Dangerous! Please don't climbing"
The sign on the left is posted in many public places, prohibiting durian. Durian is a fruit that smells like a dirty diaper. Tell me why people would want to bring this in their hotel room, never mind eat it.
"Danger! Strength Water" "Don't Swimming"
"No Climbing or Sharking"
Ah I love these rules. # 2. Do not wash clothes, Cook, Smoke on bed and keep quiet." # 5. Visitors will not be allowed to meet a guests in the room."
"No Passing A Grass" What does that mean?
"Form for Alien to Notify of Staying Longer than 90 days"
This is the paper I fill out every 90 days, reminding me of my status as 'alien'. No wonder I have so much trouble reading the signs.
"Tobacco: Deadly in any form or disquise." Maybe this one should be posted in high schools.
This sign was posted in a Starbucks bathroom. "Please don't put napkins in hold in the blow."
"Please do not discard soiled in toilet"
"Who have the disease as follows? - Diabetes - Epilepsy- Heart disease
Please inform an officer to knows, In order that, for the safety in your life. Thank you"
"Announced! Do not take the dog out to purge the streets of the village. A smelly foul trouble to disturb neighbors." This is a sign posted in my neighborhood. Doesn't stop the neighbor's dogs from causing a "smelly foul trouble" outside our gate just about every morning.
So tell me, which is your favorite sign?
So tell me, which is your favorite sign?
I love finding these signs too. The "teacher" side of me wants to go and correct them all, but then I think we get so many laughs from them that it wouldn't be worth it. And I cringe to think what my signs would actually say if I had to write in Thai!!!
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite one is Tobacco: Deadly in any form or disquise. :)
